FAQs
1. What is the difference between charging in a normal plug on the wall and charging with an electric charger?
You can always choose to charge your vehicle in a normal plug on the wall if you have that specific cable provided by the car’s manufacturer. However, using a charger that was built specifically to charge your electric vehicle at home will offer you more comfort, speed, and safety. This is what we specialize in at Evolut.green, but it is also what most car brands recommend as well.
If you live in an apartment, you can also have a charger, depending on the parking space’s infrastructure. We offer a free technical visit to better evaluate your particular situation. Please contact us to schedule an appointment.
2. How long does it take to charge an electric vehicle?
The electric vehicles available on the market with over 400km autonomy come with very powerful batteries that make it hard to charge them directly from your home plugs.
Using a specific charger allows for greater charging speed. While home plugs charge a maximum of 2.3 kW, our chargers ensure up to 7.4 kW in a mono-phase installation or up to 22 kW in a three-phase installation.
You should always contact your vehicle’s dealer to understand what is the estimated charging time that corresponds to the vehicle’s maximum charging power.
Factors that contribute to a vehicle’ charging time include:
- Vehicle Type: passenger vehicle, motorcycle, moped, bike, etc.
- Type of Battery and Charging Level: different batteries with different capacity, will influence the charging time. If the battery is “empty,” it will charge faster—up to a certain point—than if it is “full”
- Type of Current: if you charge your vehicle at home with your home charger, it will take longer than if you charge it in a fast-charging DC Charging Station
- Temperature: extreme temperatures, whether it is cold or hot, will also influence the charging time
Have a look at the charging times chart below—from 0% to 80%, for a 40kWh battery:
The charging time varies according to the size of the battery and the speed of the vehicle’s internal charger. The example above shows the advantage of using a home charger/ wallbox versus using a basic home plug or the Green-Up Charger.
3. How much does it cost to charge an electric vehicle at home?
Charging an electric car depends on two factors: the vehicle’s battery capacity and the contracted electricity power you have in your home.
“How much do I pay per kilowatt if I charge my car with the electricity power I have contracted for my home?". That will depend on the time of the day in which you decide to charge your electric car.
To calculate how much it would cost you to charge your car’s battery to 100%, take the price you pay per kWh and multiply by the number of KWh the battery of your electric car has. Here’s an example:
Electric vehicle’s model: Kia Soul EV
Battery: 27 kWh.
The total price to charge your car’s battery to 100% at night-time: 1.7 €. With this car, a full battery allows you to travel approximately 155 km, which means you would spend less than 1.20€ / 100 km.
4. How much would it cost to subscribe to a charging service?
For this type of service, Evolut.green will install your electric/plug-in car’s charger for free. On top of that, we’ll also assure the equipment’s maintenance and replacement, in case of a malfunction or other technical problem.
With the subscription, you would get unlimited charging sessions from 13,58€/month + VAT (at 48 months) or from 27,68€/month + VAT (at 24 months).
To learn more, please contact our team.
5. Can I charge my car on a cheaper schedule?
Yes. There are several tariffs in which you pay less for your energy supply within certain hours of the day. To learn more about this, please contact your energy supplier.
6. How much does it cost to install a home charger for my electric car?
The price of each installation will depend on the characteristics of each building/house’s infrastructure.
7. I live in a condominium. Do I need to get approval from my neighbors to install an electric charger?
If you have your own parking space powered by your home’s electricity provider, you can install an electric charger for your vehicle, as long as the installation doesn’t go through the common areas of the building/condominium and all the safety regulations are duly respected.
All electric/plug-in vehicle owners that don’t have an electric charger in their parking space can go ahead with the installation, given that they comply with all the technical and legal requirements imposed by the local regulators (the Direção Geral de Energia e Geologia ]DGEG], if the installation takes place in Portugal). However, it is mandatory to make this request to the building’s administration in writing at least 30 days before the installation date. The building’s administration can only oppose to this installation in the event that one of the following situations occur:
- Within 90 days of your letter informing of the intention to proceed with the installation, the condominium decides to install a charging point, with the same type of technology, that allows for the charging of batteries and for satisfying the needs of all potential users;
- When there is already a charging point, with the same type of technology and services, in the building, that every tenant can use;
- When the installation is believed to may cause danger to the tenants or jeopardize the building’s architecture.
8. Is the electric charger waterproof and cold/heat resistant?
Yes. Here’s the technical information regarding the EO chargers (Humidity: 5% to 95%. Room temperature: – 30ºC to + 50ºC)
9. What are the payment options?
Evolut.green’s clients can choose to pay fully in one go or monthly. The option to pay in installments is facilitated by our credit partners.
